I was recently interviewed by The Institute of
Copywriting.

I love being a direct marketing copywriter.
Even after 20+ years of working at my copywriting craft, I still
deeply love what I do. The art of it and the science of it. Every new
project is like genesis - a chance to take the unformed, unknowable
into something strong, vigorous and effective.
If you're interested in learning about the honorable craft of
direct response copywriting, I suggest you consider these options:
1 - Take a course
The American Writers and Artists Institute offers an excellent
correspondence course that will give you the foundation you need to be
successful. It's a well-done, step-by-step introduction to the proven
techniques that make make direct response marketing work. Sure, you could learn most of these techniques on
your own, using expensive trial and error as your guide. (That's how
most of us learned copywriting, including me.) Their promotion style
is a little "hyper" and makes learning copywriting a little easier
than it actually is, but if you're looking
to learn DM from the ground up - they offer a
solid copywriting
program that's wroth your time and investment.
2 - Buy a book
There are many excellent books on copywriting to be found. Here are
some of my personal favorites listed by author:
And if you'd like to read the new book for which I had the great
fun and honor as Technical Editor, see Writing Copy for Dummies. This
is a good basic book to the field that any business person will find
useful. (Available 11/04.)
3 - Get coached by Roberta
Over the past few years, I've had the opportunity to work
one-on-one with many talented budding writers who wanted to learn the
secrets, techniques, and strategies that turn words into pure sales
gold. Not with screaming hype and hoopla (because that's not the kind
of stuff I do), but with strong, "real meat on the bones" copy
delivered with ultimate respect for the reader and prospective
customer.
Today, many of these men and women are successfully working at
their craft.
I don't think there's any magic to good copywriting. It does,
however, take a love of the sales process, dedication for each draft
and rewrite, curiosity about the world and the people in it, the
ability to see the world through someone else's eyes, and utmost
respect for the copywriting craft and the reader.
"We worked on a magazine subscription acquisition
package from the carrier to the reply device. And by the ninth
session, I had a “light bulb” moment. and EVERYTHING, almost magically
came together.
Thank you, Roberta, for sharpening my skills, encouraging and
believing in me, and giving me the confidence and tools, which
elevated me to the next level.

"With Roberta's help, I landed my first client,
but I consider the feeling of accomplishment I got from working
with her as my greatest reward. Thanks, Roberta!"

You got all that and you, too, can be a copywriter (or a better
one), and I can help you get there.
"I have been a
copywriting student of Roberta Rosenberg's for over a year and
love it!
Roberta reviews my work with an eye for pulling
out the best in me, and I work hard to give it to her.
This is more than just coaching. This is a professional
relationship that teaches, nurtures and dares you to be the writer
you know can be."

Staunton, Virginia
Want a little hand-holding through a difficult project? Let's agree
to 1 or 2 review/editing sessions. Looking to make a career change? We
can work in 10-session increments. (After 10 sessions, we'll want to
review your progress and determine the best next steps.)
We can schedule our phone meetings during the week or weekends if
need be. I'll even work an occasional evening to help you out of a
tight jam. No contracts, no long-term commitments. You pay prior to
each 45-minute session. (For your convenience, I accept Visa,
MasterCard, American Express, and PayPal.)
I only work with a limited number
of students at any given time.
This way I have the time and energy available to give full,
uninterrupted attention to each student as we move together toward
meeting his or her copywriting goals.
"The help I received from
Roberta was invaluable. She helped me gain a solid understanding
of the fundamentals of writing copy. And she helped me eliminate
some bad habits in the process. As a result, I'm now gaining more
and more clients who are thrilled with my work."
